This is the model MS-20 (aka “Tove”) lounge chair and ottoman designed by Henry Schubell for Madsen and Schubell, and produced in Denmark most likely in the late 1950s. This restored example features a reclining mechanism that allows for the chair to be used as a rocker, or locked into 8 different reclining positions. The chair and ottoman have brand new upholstery in Nanna Ditzel’s Hallingdal wool fabric by Kvadrat (in the #457 colorway original to the set), with all new foam and new rubber strapping, and the solid teak frames have been refinished.
This is a beautiful model with a flaring high-back, and sculptural arms. The afromosia teak grain is especially attractive. This is a comfortable chair, and the reclining and rocking mechanism functions flawlessly.
In the upright position the chair measures approximately 26.5” Wide x 33” Deep x 40” Tall. The seat height is 16”. The ottoman measures 19” Wide x 17” Deep x 16.5” Tall.
This set is in excellent condition. Only high-quality materials and top-notch workmanship were used for the new upholstery. The frames have been refinished and are very nice. This is a vintage set so some normal signs of age and use will be present, such as minor dings or marks, etc., but overall this chair and ottoman are in excellent refinished condition.
